Jay Haupt’s Bio

Been in the restaurant business for 25 years

Owner of the Hickory Shack traditional Texas BBQ smokehouse

After leaving school, worked as a River guide on the Orange River this is where his love for cooking with fire began.

Has worked in every department in a restaurant from sculler to owner.

Four years ago Jay got a chance to buy the restaurant at Thandi and The Hickory Shack was born.

All meats are meats in a traditional BBQ pit using only dry rubs, blue smoke and time.

Jay is fiercely traditional and likes to deliver an authentic experience.
